From last year's new DB book "Home":

You knit three strips, then braid them. Neat, huh?

So, dreamplum  found this wonderful listing on ebay for 15 skeins of superchunky cashmerino for dirt cheap - it works out to about $7.30/skein (which is less than half-price!!) the colour is indigo. Does anyone wanna go in on tis with us? I'm up for 3-5 skeins. We can't afford it by ourselves, so if you wanted to stock up on some yummy goodness for cheap, here's your chance!

Thirteen including shipping for one skein of medium blue. They have five available.

Ten skeins of I think navy blue starting at $60

I'm not particularly interested in most shades of blue, so just letting y'all know. Local peeps, I'm selling one or two skeins of lobster-colored superchunky for $8 a skein. If anyone wants. (Non-local, same plus shipping.)

So..... my haul came to:
11 skeins of superchunky and 4 skeins of baby for a total of... $104.50. Plus shipping.

The breakdown:
6 skeins red superchunky
5 skeins hot pink superchunky
2 skeins beige baby cashmerino--I suspect this shade is discontinued b/c the skein I already have was marked down
1 skein black baby cashmerino and 1 skein yellow (but not the prettiest yellow) baby cashmerino - I may try to trade/return/otherwise get rid of this one random extra yellow, as I already do have one. I mainly bid on that auction for the beige.

People in my local knitting circle wanting to beg me to sell them cheap superchunky... *wink*... the total I paid for the superchunky by itself--without shipping--is $89 even. For 11 skeins, this breaks down to about eight bucks a skein. So.... you know who you are... yeah.

Photos courtesy of either dakh or leiabelle; can't remember which

I'll have to post pics of the forest green ribbed superchunky afghan I made for shatfat in a month or so when xe moves back down here. It came out gorgeous and awesomely soft, like a big kitty or something.

btw shatfat made me the pink and teal striped pillow; it's Bernat Boa and simply soft.

more pics - i look like i'm in one of those ball cages at Burger King!Collapse )

Subject:Baby-weight tank top not pilling after vigorous hand-wash
Posted by:dreamplum.
Time:10:35 am.
The purple and peach tank top I made was recently washed in the sink, rinsed under my bathtub tap, and hung over a plastic hanger to dry. I'm wearing it now and it's not pilling or out of shape. And it's still soft as ever.

My hypothesis at this point for the "cashmerino=pilling" thing is that it applies to the aran weight ("regular" weight) yarn mainly--all the blogs I found complaining about it only mentioned the regular weight. So at this point I have no desire to play with the regular weight at all.

I'm very curious about this Azkaban Aztrakhan thing, though. Looks floofy.

Subject:What's the scoop with cashmerino and pilling?
Posted by:dreamplum.
Time:11:11 am.
According to one blog I just found, knitting it slightly tighter will greatly reduce pilling. You know what I suspect? I suspect that those who've had problems with superchunky pilling knit it with #11's, which is not the right size. Maybe those Brittany Birches in 7.5 mm are a good investment...

And second comment: the worst pilling reviews seem to be for the aran. By the way.

Posted by:dreamplum.
Time:10:41 am.

Patterns for all of this were incredibly easy and none of them were originally written for cashmerino, but it worked nicely. I'm not putting the pics behind a cut because nobody has joined the community yet, so I'm just putting this here to have a nice beginning for it. Note: the Swan hat is missing from this list b/c I have yet to take a satisfying photograph of it.

Six and a half skeins of Superchunky (05, 15, and 18)

Four skeins of Baby cashmerino (606, 104, and 101)

One skein of Superchunky (03)
